John and Ruth Ann Ulman

John and Ruth Ann Ulman grew up in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. John attended California State Teachers College in California, PA before moving to California in 1946. Ruth Ann followed and they were married in Hollywood, CA on August 24, 1946. John completed his education in Santa Barbara before beginning his teaching career as a math and applied arts instructor in Kernville at both the Kern Valley High School and Camp Owens. During this period John and Ruth Ann lived in Old Kernville prior to the construction of Lake Isabella Reservoir, Onyx and present day Kernville.
In 1956, John and Ruth Ann moved to Bakersfield where John first taught at North High School for 13 years and then at Highland High School until his retirement in 1979. Upon retirement, John started his own residential construction business which he operated until 1995.
John and Ruth Ann have two surviving children…son John and daughter Mary Ann “Sally” Ulman. They have one grandchild. John and Ruth Ann celebrated 70 years of marriage on August 24, 2016. They live in East Bakersfield.
