The Lionel Alex Jauregui Ortiz Memorial Scholarship

Lionel was born in San Jose, CA, and raised in Bakersfield, CA. He was a graduate of Highland High School, Bakersfield College, UCLA Summer Intensive Transfer Experience (SITE), and the University of California (UC), Riverside. He loved movies and film production (the Scream series was among his favorites). He was a proud gay man who worked to raise awareness about healthcare access, and HIV/AIDS prevention, and served as a tireless volunteer with the Bakersfield Burrito Project. He passed away in March 2022 at the age of 37 years old. He is survived by his loving parents, sisters, nieces and nephews, maternal grandmother, and countless friends and family whom he showered with love and kindness.
